Perry Junior League 8U Coach Pitch Boys Rules

  1. Games will be 1 hour and 15 min or 6 innings.

  2. Runs are limited to 7 per inning.

  3. A team may start and finish a game with 8 players. The start of a game may be delayed by 10 minutes if one of the teams does not have 8 players present.  If the required number of players is not present after 10 minutes, that team must forfeit the game.  Start times will not be delayed if 8 or more players are present.  If players arrive after the beginning of the game, they will be added to the bottom of the lineup.

  4. A continuous batting order will be utilized and enforced throughout the game.

  5. A facemask is optional for the batter.  If a helmet has snaps a chinstrap must be used.

  6. A batter running to first must utilize the safety bag.

  7. The team will receive one warning for a player slinging a bat.  For all other occurrences, the batter will be called out.

  8. The team will receive on warning for players being outside the dugout.  The next occurrence will result in the ejection of the Head Coach.

  9. A runner can leave the base path to avoid a defensive player, but may not leave the base path to avoid a tag.

  10. A catcher is required to be in full gear with a throat protector.

  11. A catcher cannot block the plate unless a play is being made.  If no play is being made, the catcher must give way to the runner.

  12. A runner must attempt to make a slide or attempt to go around to a base/plate if a defensive player is present attempting to make a play. Runners MUST slide or surrender at home plate to avoid a collision.

  13. Players sliding head-first into a bag will be called out.

  14. Run Rule is 15 after 4, 8 after 5.

  15. Ten defensive players are allowed on the field.

  16. The adult coach pitcher of the offensive team shall pitch to the batters and he shall throw overhand from standing position.

  17. Batters will receive 5 total pitches or 3 swinging strikes.  A foul ball/tip, unless caught, will allow the batter to receive another pitch.

  18. The coach pitcher must pitch from within the designated pitching circle with the coach pitcher’s feet remaining in the designated pitching circle until the pitch is released. If the coach pitcher does not remain in the circle, a violation shall be called by the umpire with the defensive team having the option of taking the play or a no pitch.

  19. The coach pitcher shall exit the playing field behind the runner or away from any play on the field when the ball is hit into fair play to avoid interference. If the umpire determines interference on the coach pitcher, the batter shall be declared out and all runners shall return to the base occupied at the time of the pitch. The coach pitcher shall be warned and a second occurrence in the game shall result in the removal of the coach pitcher from the mound to the dugout for the remainder of the game.

  20. If the coach pitcher is hit by the ball, it is a dead ball and will be declared a no pitch.

  21. The coach pitcher may coach or position the batter only, prior to the delivery of a pitch. He/she cannot coach the runners. A warning will be given for first offense and he/she will be removed from the mound to the dugout for the remainder of the game on the second offense.

  22. The player pitcher is required to wear a batting helmet with a face guard and chin strap while playing this position.

  23. Infield fly rule is in not in effect.

  24. Bunting is not allowed.

  25. A runner is not allowed to leave the base until the pitcher delivers a pitch and the ball crosses the plate.

  26. A runner must return to the base once the pitcher is on the rubber preparing to pitch.

  27. A game running 6 innings will end in a tie during the regular season.

  28. The umpire will announce and make the determination of game time and be responsible for monitoring time left.

  29. A new inning of a game will not be started within 10 min of time expiring, but the inning must be finished unless the home team batting and in the lead, or the visiting teams ½ inning is completed and they are behind in the score.
